GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist to support our geotechnical engineering practice. The successful candidate will have a solid educational background and must be self-motivated with a professional attitude.

Typical Duties May Include:

• Performing outdoor, all-season, on-site geotechnical and geological investigation work as well as geotechnical related construction monitoring field tasks such as fill construction, foundation installation observation and testing
• Conducting subsurface geotechnical and geologic investigations in connection with building, infrastructure and other development projects
• Performing field geologic explorations including soils and bedrock mapping
• Performing field permeability testing and evaluations for infiltration facilities
• Writing drafts of field reports and geotechnical and geologic reports
• Providing geotechnical monitoring and using instrumentation to record vibrations, settlements, slope movements, water levels, and other critical geotechnical engineering data
• Reducing and summarizing geohydrologic and geotechnical data and preparing plans for inclusion in interpretive reports for clients
• Documenting and preparing reports on the geotechnical and geologic aspects of construction projects
• Performing geotechnical computer modeling of allowable foundation bearing loads, settlement, slope stability, groundwater dewatering predictions, groundwater flow and additional job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or Hydrogeology (Master’s Degree a plus)
• 0-3 years of related experience in the fields of site investigation pertaining to foundation engineering system observation, testing and/or design
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities
• Ability to follow directions, and work independently or in a team setting
• Effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills
• Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite
• Database, CAD, MathCAD or ArcGIS a plus
• 10-hour Construction Safety, 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and/or FE/EIT certification a plus
• Availability to work Monday through Friday and some evenings and weekends
• Ability to travel locally and regionally
• A valid driver’s license in good standing
