At its Birthday Party, Camden's Salvation Army Kroc Center Handed Out the Gifts

CAMDEN – The Salvation Army Kroc Center threw itself a big 10th birthday party over the weekend, but it gave rather than received.

A total of 6,500 people were served in one way or another by the Kroc Center during its celebration, the center reported on Wednesday.

Nearly half of those served – 3,000 individuals and more than 750 families – received food donations from the Kroc Center in partnership with the Food Bank of South Jersey, Sharing Excess.

“The 128,000-square-foot Camden Kroc Center facility has hosted more than 2.5 million visitors over the past 10 years. Volunteers have donated more than 125,000 service hours over the past decade,” according to the center.

“The food distribution is a key feature of this weekend’s program of events, as the Camden Kroc Center has distributed over two million meals in the past 10 years, providing hope and comfort to our neighbors in need,” said Major Lolita Sanchez, Administrator of The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center.

A “KrocFest” festival, the center's largest to date, was hosted on Saturday with more than 100 partner agencies.

The celebratory weekend closed with the Decaversary Gala on Saturday evening, and another dedication of The Salvation Army Ray  & Joan Kroc Corps ministry and continued commitment to its work.

The committee chair for the event was Liz Thomas of Thomas/Boyd Communications.
