New Jersey to provide $ 5 million in small business rental assistance grants
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) – $ 5 million in leasing assistance is on its way to small businesses in New Jersey.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said the grant, which comes from funding from the CARES Act, is intended for businesses affected by the pandemic.
“The program has already helped 1,000 businesses located in the 64 municipalities where the redevelopment authority operates,” he said.
Christina Renna, of the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, said rent, rentals and utility bills were some of the biggest hurdles businesses face as they try to stay afloat .
“This addition to the grant program will go a long way. Small businesses have particularly experienced difficulties in all areas due to the impact of the pandemic, ”she said.
Renna thinks that many local areas need more attention and more money than what is provided.
“I think this is a good approach from the governor’s office,” she conceded, before adding: “I will say this: of the 64 municipalities, less than 20 are here in the region of South Jersey.
Renna said she would continue to campaign for coastal towns to get more funding.
