DE+I Council: Creating Systemic Change Within Your Business

DE+I Council: Creating Systemic Change Within Your Business

Tuesday, July 14, 2020 (10:30 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

This session will address the essential question, “What do sustained and meaningful efforts to support diversity, equity and inclusion look like?” We will move beyond performative statements, brand activism, political correctness, and trendy buzzwords to engage in a transparent discussion of the critical issues that businesses face each day in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. Monika Williams Shealey will share highlights from Rowan’s University’s Foundations of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate program to enable us to act as an ally, accomplice, and advocate and examine unconscious and implicit biases. The session will help identify the barriers that present challenges in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce, and the need to develop systems and structures that will ensure companies live out their commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion. Session participants will leave with concrete steps to engage in developing strategic priorities in DEI and strategies to enact systemic change.
