220th Legislature Reorganization

Legislative Updates

On January 11, the New Jersey Legislature held its Reorganization meetings for the 220th Legislative Session.

In the New Jersey Senate, Senator Nick Scutari was selected to serve as Senate President, replacing Steve Sweeney, who lost reelection in November. Senator Teresa Ruiz was selected to serve as Senate Majority Leader, replacing longtime Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, who retired from pubic service. The Senate Republican Caucus elected Senator Steve Oroho to serve as Senate Minority Leader. Following the Reorganization, the Senate Republican Caucus issued their priorities for the next Session, which includes making the State more affordable among other items.

In the New Jersey Assembly, Speaker Craig Coughlin and Majority Leader Lou Greenwald were once again chosen for their respective leadership positions in the new Session. In the Assembly Republican Caucus, Assemblyman John DiMaio was elected to serve as the new Assembly Minority Leader replacing Jon Bramnick, who was elected to the State Senate.
