On November 30, the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee heard testimony on A-577 (Karabinchak/Greenwald/Munoz) which would direct the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities(BPU) to establish a program concerning renewable natural gas. CCSNJ Manager of Government Affairs, Hilary Chebra argued in her testimony that it is important that the State consider all energy sources in its transition to clean energy. Ms. Chebra noted that this bill will assist in achieving New Jersey’s emissions goals by promoting the expansion of new, environmentally responsible fuels, such as RNG and green hydrogen, while using the existing natural gas distribution infrastructure. The bill was heard “for discussion only” at the sponsor's request to work on amendments with the BPU and the New Jersey Division of Rate Counsel. The Senate counterpart, S-1366 (Scutari/Oroho) has yet to be considered by the Senate Environment and Energy Committee.
