CCSNJ Testifies on Cybersecurity in New Jersey

General Business

On December 16, Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) Manager of Government Affairs Hilary Chebra was invited to deliver testimony before the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee on the increasing cybersecurity threats facing the business community.

In her testimony, Ms. Chebra outlined the proactive steps businesses are taking to fortify their cybersecurity defenses and urged the state to provide resources to support businesses in strengthening their cybersecurity infrastructure. Specifically, she highlighted key actions businesses are implementing, including investing in advanced cybersecurity tools, employee training initiatives, and partnerships with security providers to help keep their companies protected from threats.

However, Ms. Chebra noted that many of these steps are costly, especially for smaller businesses, which are often left most vulnerable to attacks. She concluded by recommending state support for businesses through cybersecurity grants or tax incentives to help small and mid-sized businesses afford necessary protections, as well as exploring public-private partnerships for workforce training in cybersecurity.

The CCSNJ will continue to monitor this critical issue and provide updates on legislative actions and opportunities for engagement.
