Governor Murphy Announces "The Road Back" Plan to Reopen New Jersey

219th Legislative Session COVID-19 Legislative Updates Legislative Updates

On April 27, Governor Phil Murphy announced his plan to reopen New Jersey's economy.

The plan, entitled "The Road Back" will have six guiding principles for reopening:

  • Sustained reductions in new COVID19 cases & hospitalizations
  • Expand testing capacity
  • Implement robust contact tracing
  • Secure safe places for isolation
  • Responsible economic restart
  • Ensure NJ’s resiliency

However, Governor Murphy specifically noted that only after the first four items are accomplished will the last two items – “responsible economic restart” and “ensure NJ’s resiliency” – be the focus of the reopening plan.

Tomorrow the Governor will announce the members of the Governor’s Restart and Recovery Commission, a group of economists, business leaders, labor leaders, and health care experts that will help implement the measures outlines in “The Road Back” plan.
