On June 16, FIFA announced the selection of the New York City and New Jersey as a joint host for matches at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In additional welcome news for the region, Philadelphia's bid to host matches at Lincoln Financial Field was also selected. U.S. stadiums will host sixty of the eighty matches in the tournament, including all games from the quarterfinals and beyond. The bid proposed siting the final match at MetLife Stadium, however FIFA has yet to designate the number of games each city will host or the venues for late-stage matches.
