219th Legislative Session Legislative Updates General Business

On October 15, Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order that extends the moratorium on utility shutoffs. No household may have its electricity, gas service, or water shut off for nonpayment through March 15th, 2021. Service must be restored if it’s been disconnected during the public health emergency.

This executive order also extends the moratorium against the disconnection of internet or voice services is through November 15th, 2020. Households with school-age children who need internet connectivity for remote learning will be extended through March 15th, 2021.

Cable providers must offer at least a 12-month repayment plan that would allow consumers to pay back what they owe over equal installments before disconnecting internet or voice services.
