On January 11, 2021, the Senate and Assembly passed S-3340/A-5246, which expands opportunities for restaurants, bars, distilleries, and breweries to provide outdoor dining and permits certain sales at seasonal farm markets in response to COVID-19 public health emergency – an extremely similar bill to that which was vetoed by Governor Murphy on January 4.
The bill was expedited for a vote by the full Senate and Assembly, and is the product of discussions between the Governor's Office, Assembly sponsors and Senate President Steve Sweeney, who worked to rectify any issues that led to the Governor’s previous veto. The CCSNJ applauds this action, having supported the previous bill with hopes that continued ease of regulations would allow these struggling industries greater flexibility to survive the pandemic.
