BookSmiles Announces Launch of Expansion Campaign: Room to Read, The Next Chapter!

BookSmiles is thrilled to announce the launch of our Expansion Campaign: Room to Read, The Next Chapter! This campaign will support our move to our new facility in Cherry Hill this fall, where we will distribute up to three million children's books each year.
What began in 2017 as a grassroots passion project in founder Larry Abrams' Cherry Hill garage has grown into a powerful regional literacy movement because of supporters like you: our volunteers, donors, educators, community partners, and advocates who believe every child deserves access to books.
Our current warehouse in Pennsauken has reached its capacity, and the demand for children's books and our programs continues to grow. This new facility will allow us to:
- Distribute millions more books each year
- Serve more schools, teachers, daycare centers, and nonprofit partners
- Welcome more volunteers and larger book sorting groups, and have space to host community events for story times, crafts, networking and fellowship
- Improve operational efficiency, book recovery, and recycling efforts
This isn’t just a move. It’s an investment in the future of childhood literacy that will allow
BookSmiles to become a national model.
To bring this vision to life, we are launching a $2 million Expansion Campaign to support the build-out, infrastructure, equipment, and program growth needed for this exciting next chapter. And we want YOU to be part of it!
You can support the campaign by:
- Making a donation
- Exploring naming and sponsorship opportunities (see pg 3)
- Supporting an area of impact (see pg 5)
- Connecting us with potential supporters (Larry@booksmiles.org or Emily@booksmiles.org)
- Volunteering your time or expertise
- Hosting a high-profile fundraising event or parlor meeting (Karen@booksmiles.org for event support)
- Helping us spread the word

In the coming weeks, we’ll share exciting updates, stories, and opportunities to support specific spaces within the new facility.
Together, we can create room for more books, more volunteers, and more smiles.
