Decades Highlights Commitment to I/DD Community During Autism Acceptance Month

Member Announcements

CHERRY HILL, NJ, April 18, 2025 – In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Decades Construction & Facilities Group is spotlighting its mission-driven work to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), particularly those seeking to live more independently in communities across New Jersey.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New Jersey has one of the highest rates of autism in the nation, with 1 in 35 children diagnosed statewide. While awareness has grown, housing remains a significant challenge with over 4,000 individuals with I/DD currently on waiting list for residential placements in New Jersey alone.
Decades is actively addressing this need by transforming homes and facilities into inclusive, supportive environments where individuals with special needs can live their best lives. “We launched Decades with one clear goal: to empower the organizations who serve the I/DD community by creating spaces that prioritize dignity, independence, and innovation,” shared Bill Bamford, President and Founder. “After witnessing firsthand the impact of a group home project, I knew I had found my ‘why’. I’m grateful that I get to use my 30+ years of experience in construction to serve this community.”
That passion has led Decades to become a valued partner to Bancroft, a leading nonprofit serving individuals with autism, brain injuries, and neurological conditions. In collaboration with Bancroft, Decades helped deliver New Jersey’s first-ever Smart Home for adults with I/DD in Willingboro. The home includes voice-assisted devices, biometric door locks, smart appliances, and sensors that enhance safety while promoting independence for residents. Decades also constructed a fully equipped sensory room for Bancroft’s day program in Glassboro, NJ, providing a calming, responsive space tailored to sensory sensitivities.
"Every CEO could benefit from having Bill Bamford and the Decades Team manage their facilities regardless of size. They are trusted, knowledgeable partners who have reduced costs, improved services, and ensured compliance across our 18 facilities and 200 group homes. Thanks to them, my team can now focus on their core strengths while leaving facility management to the capable hands of the Decades Team," shared Toni Pergolin, Bancroft President & CEO

Further demonstrating its dedication, Decades is a proud member of the Sattell Institute, committing a $100,000 philanthropic pledge to Bancroft over three years. The firm was also selected as a finalist for the Social Innovation Journal’s 2025 Innovations in Social Mobility award, recognizing its technological advancements in inclusive housing.
