Introducing the Center for Neurodiversity and welcoming Dr. Temple Grandin

Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021

Business Hall Atrium & 104

Join the Rowan community for an introduction to what may be the first Center for Neurodiversity at any four-year college or university in the state, plus a special virtual program with world-renowned scientist, educator and advocate Temple Grandin.

Center for Neurodiversity Launch at 3:30 p.m.

With a deep commitment and extensive services already in place for neurodiverse people, Rowan’s new center will serve the hundreds of students and employees who identify as neurodiverse with programs, technology and dedicated physical space. Neurodiversity describes and acknowledges brain differences as natural variations, not disabilities.

The Center will be the new home for Rowan’s Office of Accessibility Services (formerly the Office of Disability Resources). The Office of Accessibility Services will remain in Savitz Hall. The Administrative Offices of the Center for Neurodiversity temporarily will be housed in Hawthorn Hall. The Center is a shared entity between the Division of Academic Affairs and Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion which, since its 2019 founding, has worked to further Rowan’s commitment to a welcoming environment for everyone.

Virtual meet and greet with Dr. Temple Grandin at 4 p.m.
Following the 3:30 p.m. in-person program, world-renowned animal behaviorist Dr. Temple Grandin will participate in a virtual program with students and employees in Business Hall 104. Dr. Grandin is well-known for her work as a spokesperson for people, like herself, with autism. An HBO movie about her early life and career brought her worldwide acclaim and earned seven Emmy awards, a Golden Globe and a Peabody. In 2016, Dr. Grandin was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
