New Work Training Opportunity Created by Assisting Beach Towns with Online Beach Tag/Badge Sales

Member Announcements

Cape May Court House, NJ (April 6, 2021) – Jersey Cape Diagnostic, Training, and Opportunity Center, Inc. (“Jersey Cape”), a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit corporation that assists individuals of all abilities in acquiring job skills and employment in Cape May County, has announced that it has created a new job training opportunity that involves the online sale and delivery of select seasonal beach tags/badges.

As an employment training center, Jersey Cape provides a work training environment that mirrors the career opportunities of our community and serves as an intermediate step towards helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities secure their ideal employment outcomes. Since 1973, this has included the assembly of most of the Jersey Shore’s beach tags/badges. As Jersey Cape has grown, this has expanded into more job training opportunities such as promotional products and business services. Now, with a nod toward the 21st century and a desire to improve the experience and add convenience for residents and visitors to our region, this has expanded into online beach tag/badge sales and delivery.

Jersey Cape entered into agreements with the Boroughs of Avalon, Cape May Point, and Stone Harbor to sell the each town’s seasonal beach tags on Jersey Cape’s website, fulfill each order, and ship them to the customer. While the municipalities do pay Jersey Cape for their bulk orders of beach tags/badges as they normally would in the past, they pay no extra for this added service. It is solely another job training opportunity for Jersey Cape to offer to its program participants. Municipalities also benefit as it gives them the ability to sell tags/badges earlier and easier, decreasing costs and workload. Customers now have the option to use credit cards and are able to receive the tags/badges ahead of time before they visit the beach, which was typically not always an option in the past. Each week, Jersey Cape delivers a report to each Borough for reconciliation purposes.

“This is a terrific partnership between the Borough and the Center for a way for individuals to get actual beach tags in advance of the summer season”, said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. “The delivery of actual beach tags before the season has been requested by our residents”.

Beachgoers looking to purchase seasonal beach tags can simply log on to www.jerseycapetags.com/currentbeachtagsbadges. Customers purchase tags/badges using a credit card, and are charged a very small credit card processing fee in addition to postage and the actual cost of the beach tag/badge. Participating towns include Avalon, Cape May Point, and Stone Harbor, but Jersey Cape welcomes other towns to participate at no cost. Interested municipalities can contact Jersey Cape’s Marketing and Special Projects Specialist George Swoyer at georges@jerseycape.org to get started.

“We are excited to offer yet another service to individuals with disabilities who need assistance in finding and sustaining employment,” said Joe Sittineri, Executive Director of Jersey Cape. “We thank the participating municipalities for their desire to help those most at-risk in our community and welcome other municipalities to participate as well.”
