Samaritan Honors Volunteer Gwen Knight For 2,500 Hours of Service

Mount Laurel, NJSamaritan honored volunteer Gwen Knight of Marlton for her years of dedicated service to the organization at this year’s Winterfest celebration – an annual event recognizing employees and volunteers for their service milestones and continued dedication to Samaritan’s mission.

An administrative volunteer supporting Samaritan’s marketing and development, accounting and clinical staff since 2007, Gwen regularly represents Samaritan at community events. She recently reached the milestone of 2,500 service hours donated to Samaritan.

“With her generous spirit, Gwen represents the Samaritan difference,” said Phillip W. Heath, president and CEO of Samaritan. “We are grateful for her kindheartedness, compassion and gift of the last 16 years.”

Gwen expanded upon her volunteer services in 2010, when she began to make bereavement calls to grieving families, and joined the Samaritan Thrift store team when it opened in 2012.

“These vitally important calls are our way of checking in on families and individuals after their loved one has passed,” explained Heath. “Gwen makes sure they are receiving the exact kind of support they need. And you can still find Gwen working at Samaritan Thrift every Tuesday! I am deeply grateful and humbled by the great amount of time and talent she has given to Samaritan.”

About Samaritan:

Samaritan is a not-for-profit, independent organization locally founded in Moorestown, New Jersey in 1980 as one of the first hospices in the country. Samaritan is now one of the State’s leading providers of hospice care, palliative (comfort) medicine, at-home primary care, grief support and counseling, advanced illness care, education and advocacy. Samaritan serves people in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties who are coping with the stresses of aging, serious illness or grief wherever they call home. Samaritan also has two dedicated inpatient hospice centers in Voorhees and Mount Holly. Beyond the services covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans, Samaritan annually provides nearly $1M in donor-funded non-reimbursed care for patients and families in the South Jersey region. A thrift shop in Westmont also supports Samaritan services and programs. Samaritan is accredited by The Joint Commission; a member of the National Partnership for Hospice Innovation; and is a four-star hospice in the national We Honor Veterans program.
