SBA seeks small business execs for its Emerging Leaders Initiative

The New Jersey office of the U.S. Small Business Administration announced Monday the launch of the 2021 Emerging Leaders Initiative for executives of small businesses poised for growth in underserved markets.

This year will mark the sixth class of the federal agency’s popular program.

The intensive executive entrepreneurship series will be fully virtual again this year and include nearly 100 hours of classroom time, New Jersey District Director Al Titone said. In addition, the class will provide participants with the opportunity to work with a network of experienced coaches and mentors.

Those selected for the Class of 2021 will also be able to attend specialized workshops, as well as develop connections with their peers, city leaders and the financial community.

Since its inception in 2008, Emerging Leaders has trained more than 4,000 small business owners nationally, creating over 7,000 jobs, generating over $500 million in new financing and securing over $4 billion in government contracts. According to past New Jersey Emerging Leaders participants, 80% credited the program for allowing them to maintain or add new jobs at their company, 82% reported continuing their profitability and 91% stated they would recommend the program to a fellow small business owner.

“SBA New Jersey is seeking applicants for the newest class of Emerging Leaders,” Titone said. “Its success to date has been fantastic, and we’re looking for a new crop of small business owners and entrepreneurs to help grow and pivot during their business cycle.”

According to Titone, the SBA Emerging Leaders program helps build sustainable businesses that promote economic development within Garden State communities.

“Our primary goal is to continue attracting inner-city small business owners, who are poised for next-stage growth, and provide them with the necessary support, resources and skills to help them to achieve long-term success,” he said.
