SJI launches HOLA in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month
In an effort to provide a platform for broadening and deepening understanding of Hispanic and Latino culture – as well as promote inclusion and belonging, South Jersey Industries announced Monday that is launching HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Latino Achievement) as its latest employee resource group.
The announcement comes during — and in recognition of — National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Folsom-based company said. All employees are eligible to join.
One of HOLA’s first events was held at the St. Joseph Social Service Center, where volunteers made more than 1,000 sandwiches at the 12th Annual “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Vacation” Sandwich Drive.
Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of SJI, was a sponsor of the event, which takes place every summer in partnership with Assembly member Annette Quijano to help those facing food insecurity and homelessness.
SJI officials said it was an example of how the company strives to build a culture of inclusion and belonging where all individuals feel respected and supported.
Senior Director of Customer Experience Diana Donnelly agreed.
“This group gives us the opportunity to share the values and achievements of our Hispanic and Latinx employees and celebrate and embrace the richness of these cultures,” she said.
