Two Flaster Greenberg Attorneys Appointed to Supreme Court of New Jersey Ethics Committee

Member Announcements

The Supreme Court of New Jersey recently appointed Shareholders William Burnett and Jeffrey Cohen to its District IV Ethics Committee (Burlington and Camden Counties). Their term begins on September 1, 2024, and runs until August 31, 2028.

The core of the disciplinary system is the 18 regional district ethics committees, including the committee on which Burnett and Cohen will serve. These committees are staffed by volunteer attorney and public members. Volunteer attorney members investigate and prosecute cases of standard attorney misconduct before hearing panels consisting of volunteer attorney and public members. Findings of unethical conduct are then forwarded to the Disciplinary Review Board. District ethics committees meet monthly online or in a hybrid format.

Burnett concentrates his practice in bankruptcy, reorganizations, and workouts. Burnett represents clients in all areas of Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, creditor’s rights, and corporate liquidations. He currently serves as the firm’s Ethics Attorney and is also an Adjunct Professor at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law  and Temple Law School . He also had served as a member of the firm’s executive committee and member of the board as well as former board member, and is past chair of the Bankruptcy, Financial Restructuring and Risk Management Department.

Cohen is chair of Flaster Greenberg’s Litigation Department. He counsels clients in complex litigation disputes and provides guidance to proactively address business issues. He collaborates with a diverse range of clients including a variety of industries in matters related to sports issues, antitrust disputes, commercial contracts, shareholder and partnership agreements, intellectual property, insurance coverage, commercial construction, and more.
