Volunteers of America Turns 130!

Volunteers of America Turns 130!

On March 8, Volunteers of America proudly celebrated 130 years of service, resilience and unwavering commitment to communities across the country.

Since our founding, Volunteers of America has remained steadfast in its mission to uplift individuals and families, create pathways to stability and opportunity, and meet the evolving needs of those we serve.

It is due to the dedication of our staff, partners, supporters and communities that we have been able to do just that. Here’s to 130 years of impact, and to the work still ahead!

VOA Time Capsule

As we celebrate 130 years of service, we’re opening the VOA Time Capsule. Each month, we’ll share a piece of our history — photos, stories, and milestones that reflect the legacy of service that continues to shape our work today.

We're starting off with some historic photos and the meaning behind our name!

When Volunteers of America was founded in 1896, “volunteer” meant anyone who served others as a vocation through a commitment to a mission. Flash forward 130 years, and our services are delivered through a partnership of professional staff and community supporters.

While it was March 8 in New York City when Maud and Ballington Booth officially began Volunteers of America, our Delaware Valley affiliate was founded just one month later!

Stay tuned for next month when we'll be featuring some fun photos and memories from our own history at VOADV!
