Exelon's Climate Change Investment Initiative Seeking Climate-Focused Startups

Freshwater Advisors is working with Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ: EXC), the country's largest utility, and the non-profit Exelon Foundation, to identify climate-focused startups to participate in Exelon's $20M Climate Change Investment Initiative (2c2i). 2c2i has invested in 32 diverse companies since 2019, and is now accepting new applications for startups addressing any aspect of sustainability that could impact one of Exelon's major markets—Chicago, Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and Wilmington, DE.

Qualified startups for 2c2i are:

  • Positively impacting climate change - GHG Mitigation or Resiliency and Adaptation
  • Currently working on, or have the potential to work on, addressing climate change in one of Exelon's service territories (Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore, Atlantic City, Wilmington, DE)

The Exelon Foundation will invest up to $300,000 of equity investment per selected company, and the Exelon Corporation and their utilities (PECO, BGE, ComEd, PECO, Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power) will provide additional in-kind services to support the startups' growth and impact.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 15th, but we strongly encourage startups to apply as soon as possible to ensure adequate time to review their application. Finalists will be invited to pitch to leadership at Exelon. Please see ExelonFoundation.org for more info and contact Sara Block at with any questions!
