CCSNJ Desk Letter for March 3 Senate Voting Session

General Business

M E M O R A N D U M

TO:                      Members of the New Jersey Senate

FROM:               Hilary Chebra, Manager, Government Affairs, CCSNJ

RE:                      Support of:

DATE: March 3, 2022

The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to voice our support for the following legislation being considered today:

  • S-330 (Singleton / Scutari): Increases distribution to municipalities from Energy Tax Receipts Property Tax Relief Fund over five years to restore municipal aid reductions.
  • S-757 (Sarlo / Oroho): Authorizes special occasion events at certain farms on preserved farmland, under certain conditions.

The CCSNJ is proud to support S-330 (Singleton / Scutari), which requires the distribution of additional State aid to municipalities under the “Energy Tax Receipts Property Tax Relief Act.” This bill would increase the amount of money allocated to municipalities from the Energy Tax Fund and would require all of new funds go towards the reduction of the property tax levy. As is well known, New Jersey continues to have the highest property taxes in the nation and S-330 (Singleton / Scutari) will assist in providing much needed tax relief to the residents of New Jersey.

Additionally, S-757 (Sarlo / Oroho) would authorizes certain commercial farms that are located on preserved farmland to hold special occasion events. As we saw during the pandemic, when given the opportunity patrons enjoy the option of being outside for special events. This was particularly important when it became clear that the risk of transmitting COVID-19 was greatly reduced at outdoor venues. S-757 (Sarlo / Oroho) will allow commercial farms to meet the demands of the public and hold events that were delayed over the past two years, while aiding in their continued economic recovery.

The CCSNJ respectfully urges you to vote “yes” on both bills. Thank you for the ability to share our support on the above measures.
