The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to share our concerns with A-5166 (Quijano/Reynolds-Jackson), which revises the law concerning family leave to apply to businesses of all sizes. The CCSNJ understands and truly appreciates the sponsor’s intent, however we are extremely concerned about the undue burden this bill will place on small businesses and those businesses that make New Jersey’s Main Streets thrive.

The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to voice our opposition to S-264 (Turner/Vitale), which eliminates the smoking ban exemption for casinos. Current law prohibits smoking in most indoor public places, with certain exceptions, including casinos and casino facilities that are accessible to the public for wagering. As written, this bill would eliminate these exceptions from the smoking ban.

The healthcare industry has long seen workforce shortages, and these shortages were only exacerbated by the pandemic. Burnout and retirements have left the industry struggling to maintain the workforce needed to keep residents healthy and safe. The CCSNJ is proud to support these bills, as part of a larger package of bills that attempt to address this crucial issue for the healthcare industry.

The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to voice our support for S- 3455 (Madden/Bucco/Sweeney), which revises eligibility requirements for the NJ Workability Program and Personal Assistance Services Program. A diverse workforce is critical to New Jersey and must include IDD individuals. This legislation will assist in removing barriers to employment and provide career advancement opportunities for these individuals in ways not seen before at a state level.

The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to share our opposition to S-3827 (Weinberg), which provides temporary paid earned sick leave to workers during coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic to address employee leave issues. The leave provided under the bill is to be provided in addition to the earned sick leave that is already required by law.

The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to share our opposition to S-2039 (Gill/Greenstein/Pou), which prohibits gender-based price discrimination. Although the intent legislation is commendable, gender-based price discrimination is an incredibly complex issue and as written, this bill would be burdensome for many small businesses to comply with.

The Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey (CCSNJ) would like to voice our opposition to S989/A2487 (Weinberg/Greenstein/Sweeney/Quijano/Benson/Egan) the "Healthy Terminals Act”. The CCSNJ is concerned that this bill will place burdensome mandates on an industry that is struggling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As currently written, this bill creates a presumption that coronavirus disease 2019 infections contracted by essential employees are work-related for the purpose of employment benefits provided for work-related injuries and illnesses.

On March 18, 2019, Governor Murphy signed S-121 (Weinberg) / A-1242 (McKeon/Bramnick) into law, which bars provisions in employment contracts that waive certain rights, and remedies and agreements that conceal details relating to discrimination claims.
