Summary:

Thomas Edison State University (TESU) is accepting applications and nominations for a student-oriented and service-driven academic leader to serve as an Assistant Dean and Academic Program Director in the Heavin School of Arts, Sciences and Technology. This individual will play a role in the school’s strategic direction, academic programming and community engagement for nontraditional adult students at the undergraduate level. TESU seeks a scholar/practitioner possessing the academic leadership experience and expertise to build upon the University’s longstanding commitment to developing career focused technical education programs in nuclear energy engineering technology, electronics systems engineering technology and related programs.

The Assistant Dean and Academic Program Director will work closely with the Dean and other units at the university in the strategic planning and delivery of academic and professional programs that are current and relevant to the needs of the workforce in the energy and related industry. TESU seeks applicants who are not only academically and professionally qualified but energized to work at a fast pace and excited by innovation and the power of education to improve lives. Applicants should demonstrate their ability to build academic communities, engage students, address the educational needs of diverse and complex constituencies, and collaborate with external organizations. The ability to attract outside funding is highly desirable. Primary Responsibilities: 

Program and Curriculum Development 

• Develop innovative academic and professional asset portfolios in high-demand, market-relevant degrees, certificates, and customized educational offerings.
• Lead the development, implementation and academic review of undergraduate programs and certificates in nuclear energy engineering technology, electronics systems engineering technology and other related professions.
• Ensure that educational programs meet appropriate professional standards and oversee programmatic accreditation, specifically ABET, activities.
• Collaboratively manage program enrollment, retention, and graduation initiatives as part of the Academic Affairs team.
• Create an academic community supporting diverse adult student populations.

Community Engagement 

• Develop and maintain partnerships and beneficial relationships, strengthening the University’s educational and service commitments.
• Be active in local and national professional associations and organizations related to the academic disciplines.

Funding Expansion 

• Work with the Dean on initiatives to advance the mission of the School, including identifying and obtaining external funding to expand the work of the School.
• Assist the Dean in identifying University-aligned grant sources and develop grant proposals in a departmentally collaborative environment.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Doctorate degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience as faculty or administrator in a higher education or similar environment with experience in developing and managing undergraduate or graduate programs .
• At least 2 years of professional experience in nuclear energy engineering technology or related field.
• Program oversight experience in technology or engineering professions.
• Demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience integrating real world examples into academic programs.
• Experience writing grants and administering sponsored programs.

Competencies:

• Understanding of work in the nuclear energy industry.

• Data-oriented planning and coordinating curriculum development, implementation, and review.

• Willingness to engage in student recruitment and retention initiatives.

• Experience with programmatic accreditation in engineering technology education, specifically ABET.
