Business Manager III

Posting Summary: 

The Business Manager III reports to the Business Manager I in the department of Finance & Accounting in the Rutgers University-Camden division of Finance & Administration. This position is responsible for the overall effective operations of the business functions of the division of Student Affairs at Rutgers University-Camden and works closely with Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, division leadership and staff to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of general business processes related to accounting, budgeting, expense management, procurement, as well as human resource management and payroll. In addition, the Business Manager III, works in collaboration with the respective leadership to forecast, develop and manage the division’s operating budget, develop, and manage routine reports related to the budget and financial and business resources (may be monthly, quarterly or annually), and will assume responsibility for safeguarding division and university assets and communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders regarding business processes within Student Affairs, both internally and externally.


The Business Manager III will be responsible to maintain an understanding of all University policies and procures related to finance, human resource and operations management and will work closely with many campus partners to provide leadership towards the fiscal responsibility of the Student Affairs division. Typically, the incumbent will work closely and grow relationships with the RU-C Budget & Finance Office, including Student Accounting, the Office of Research (particularly post-award functions), Financial Aid, Shared Services, and Human Resources. In addition, the Business Manager III may work closely with university partners in various finance, human resource, and operations management departments at the central level of the university, including but not limited to the University Controller, Internal Audit, Procurement, Payroll, Institutional Planning and Operations, and other related teams. In addition, the Business Manager III requires an ability to interpret and educate colleagues within Student Affairs on the policies and procedures as noted, and has a responsibility to ensure that the staff in the school are knowledgeable and compliant as appropriate. This position will work closely with students and student groups to develop and maintain efficient and effective business practices that are unique to the management of student-driven initiatives and specified funds. The Business Manager ensures compliance with institutional policies and financial regulations while providing strategic financial guidance to support student services, programs and initiatives.
The Business Manager III will work with minimal supervision and call upon resources as needed to produce professional work, including reports and presentations, that will require specialized knowledge in finance/accounting; he/she will need to demonstrate a specialized knowledge of the mission and goals, strategies, and organizational structure of the Student Affairs division and Rutgers University–Camden. The Business Manager III will also contribute significantly to data management and reporting that supports the accreditation processes of Student Affairs at Rutgers Camden.

Minimum Education & Experience: 

Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related field and a minimum of five years of directly relevant work experience in a finance or accounting function and demonstrates progressively higher levels of leadership and management skills. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent communication and collaborative skills, and must have strong computer literacy skills. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

Preferred qualifications for consideration include an advanced degree in business, a CPA license, previous experience in higher education, or direct work with the Rutgers University financial systems. Extensive knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) is strongly preferred. 


Equipment Utilized: 

This position requires excellent computer skills including, but not limited to the use of the Microsoft suite of products, and will require mastery of a number of university systems including HCM/Peoplesoft, Oracle Cornerstone (FMS/SciQuest), Discoverer, Tableau, RAPSS, among others.
