Classroom Aide/Classroom Facilitator


REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL

JOB SUMMARY:

The Classroom Aide/Classroom Facilitator is a staff member who works with the multidisciplinary team in transitioning children to a variety of classrooms and programs throughout the school. This position is essential to keeping a very structured program operating. At times, they may be needed, to supervise a particular student who may become out-of-control and needs someone to provide a calming effect until the student can be stabilized. This position is utilized after the Crisis Intervention Team works with the student and transitioning will be taking place.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Helps with all aspects of the daily school routine inside and outside of the classroom. In this capacity, moves a student to their classrooms in the morning and afternoon hours at the beginning and end of the school day. During the school day, keeps to assigned posts in the hallway and addresses any student issues keeping all halls cleared of students at all times.

In a crisis situation is fully trained and can assist the Crisis Intervention Team whenever necessary in order to stabilize the student. Is trained in crisis prevention, crisis intervention and behavior management techniques in keeping with the policies and procedures of the Garfield Park Academy.

Helps with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, and grading quizzes as assigned, maintaining students' point sheets and entering them into the database.

Follows directions of the supervising teacher in offering one-on-one assistance to students who need extra help.

Assists the teacher in keeping order or handling emergency situations according to school policies.

Participates in lunchroom, recess, hall-monitoring and bus duties.

Accompanies class on field trips and assists teacher as assigned.

Is familiar with subject matter being taught and with the lesson plan to be able to assist effectively.

May be asked to assist staff if student decides to leave the building without permission.

Other tasks as assigned by Administration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

            Minimum of a high school diploma.

Training and completion of training program using the Garfield Park Academy Teaching Family behavior management model. The classroom facilitator must attend the in-service programs on review of behavior management strategies.

Supportive approach to learning, especially when dealing with students with developmental problems, emotional problems, or learning disabilities.

Able to remain calm in a very busy or emergency situation.

Comply with the rules of confidentiality.

Working Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking and 30% standing.
