Director of Finance and Accounting

Job Description: 

Responsible for overseeing and maintaining all financial and accounting functions of the company, including budgeting, cost control, month-end closings, financial statement preparation, payroll, and presentation to senior management.  Member of the Leadership Team.

Job Summary:

The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for leading and managing the organization's financial operations. This role involves overseeing accounting practices, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and financial analysis. The Director ensures that financial practices comply with regulations and supports the company's strategic goals. This position reports to the President & CEO.

The individual in this position will have the following key responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s objectives.
  • Lead the budgeting process, including financial forecasting and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections.

Accounting Management:

  • Oversee the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
  • Maintain and monitor accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and regulatory requirements.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and present financial statements and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Monitor financial performance and analyze variances from budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reports and compliance with reporting standards.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, addressing findings and implementing recommendations.
  • Maintain compliance with AbilityOne and ACCSES NJ with regard to programs and policies
  • Stay current with financial regulations and compliance requirements.

 

Payroll Management:

  • Oversee the administration of the payroll function, including processing of wages, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of processing payroll, including adjustments, corrections, and special payments.
  • Oversee the payroll systems and technologies, ensuring they meet organizational needs and compliance standards.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
  • Manage departmental resources, including staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, including cost-benefit analysis and profitability assessments.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities, providing actionable insights to senior management.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicate financial information and insights to executives, board members, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support business initiatives and strategic goals.

To Be Successful:

Candidates must be able to provide superior service delivery while working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. It is essential that the individual in this role have strong organizational and communication skills. In addition:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. MBA or CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with 3 years in a managerial or director-level role.
  • Experience: An accounting background in the manufacturing industry, strongly preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, and budgeting.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
