Essential Function

The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor is a leader who will oversee the daily activities, reporting, training, and operations of the Fitness Center, Groups Exercise Classes, Personal Training Programs, and Health and Wellness programs. Under the leadership of the Program Director, the person in this position will provide focused leadership in the delivery of programs and staff training and development. The person in this position will work closely with the Recreation Management Team in the assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Kroc Center Recreation Programs, including program promotion, talent recruitment, member retention, program statistics, and facility space management.


Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Design, develop and deliver a comprehensive health promotion and risk prevention program to members, staff, and community.
  • Organize programming to meet the needs of all members. Specifically as it relates to the 6 dimensions of health: physical, social, occupational, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.
  • Give oversight to the day-to-day operations of the Fitness and Wellness programs.
  • Perform personal training, fitness and wellness instruction as needed.
  • Ensure that the Fitness and Wellness programs are coordinated to avoid facility space usage conflicts.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and leadership team meetings.

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff.
  • Manage staff scheduling process to ensure program coverage.
  • Monitor the quality of service delivery by program attendants, instructors, and specialists.
  • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff.
  • Identify and offer opportunities for staff training and development.
  • Ensure that staff maintains required certifications.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews.

Resource Management

  • Assist the Program Director with the annual budget preparation.
  • Submit requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies as needed.
  • Develop and enforce systems that safeguard any and all facilities, supplies, and equipment utilized by Fitness and Wellness programs.
  • If/when needed, safely use Salvation Army vehicles

Customer Service

  • Treat all members with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure that injuries are reported timely and according to Kroc Center procedure.
  • Respond to customer concerns and complaints in a timely manner, seeking assistance and information as needed.

Other

  • Accept other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Kroc Center Leadership Team.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Have an understanding of, and appreciation for, the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Camden Kroc Center’s Core values.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current group exercise certification from a credible organization such as the American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or Cooper Institute, American Aerobics Association International (AAAIsma).
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science, related health/fitness field or equivalent combination of education, training, prior work experience.
  • Must have at least 3 years prior relevant work experience, preferably in a credible fitness or health and wellness center.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience supervising the work of others.
  • Evidence of leadership, problem solving, and customer service capabilities.
  • Evidence of designing and developing innovative fitness and wellness programs.
  • Evidence of organizational skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Bilingual, verbal and written communication skills, preferred
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to use email responsibly.
  • Must have willingness and ability to travel.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and approved to drive Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
