Manager Residence Life SPVR

Posting Summary: 

Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a manager for the department of Residence Life. The Manager of Residence Life is responsible for implementing the full residential education program for all residence halls on the Camden campus as outlined by Student Affairs Leadership. It is the responsibility of the Manager to ensure that each student residing in on-campus housing at Rutgers University- Camden is receiving the support, services, and personal development the office aims to provide as outlined in the mission and vision of Housing & Residence Life. The Manager supervises the full-time Residence Life Coordinator(s), Graduate Program Coordinators, and will hire, supervise, and mentor the graduate and undergraduate staff members that will carry out many of the daily functions that serve residential students on the Camden campus along with overseeing the crisis response protocols. The Manager of Residence Life coordinates all residence life staff training events, activities, and professional development, is responsible for the annual programming and training budget, and interfaces with various departments on campus representing the department such as the Dean of Students office, Athletics, Wellness Center, RUPD, Enrollment Management, and academic units. The Manager of Residence Life serves as the primary contact for departmental programming initiatives and participates in University and Residence Life functions, such as orientation, move-in and move-out, housing lottery, RA selection and training, etc.

This position is integral to creating an attractive and welcoming residential student experience for current and potential students at Rutgers University-Camden. The position will participate in the on-call rotation to ensure smooth operations and support students during emergent situations and supervise student staff members in handling emergency matters occurring in the residence halls.

Minimum Education & Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree required, plus an additional two or more years of direct experience in higher education in Housing and/or Residence Life programs.


Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, plus an additional two or more years of direct experience in higher education in Housing and/or Residence Life programs.
  • Working knowledge of student development theories and practices required.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, be organized, and make decisions quickly with accuracy and quality.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • An accumulation of residence life or student affairs/services experience and training can be substituted for the master’s degree.
  • Experience with mediation and conflict resolution protocols preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: 

Because duties are carried out in at least 3 separate buildings, the ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time is necessary. The campus is in an urban environment. Comfort with navigating and living in an urban city environment is necessary. Required to participate in the on-call rotation for critical incident response in the residential halls.
