Summary:


Reporting to the Senior Director of Information Technology, you will be part of a team supporting the New Jersey State Library and libraries across the state through development, maintenance, and improvement of systems and services.


This position will be part of the NJ State Library’s JerseyConnect team. JerseyConnect provides technical support and services to public libraries across the state. Some of the services provided are network connectivity, email and spam filtering, webhosting, and cloud storage. Roughly 80% of the public libraries in NJ use at least one service. Some of the most popular services have large customer bases such as website hosting (160 customers), Spam filtering (200 mail domains) and email hosting (158 domains with over 5500 email accounts).


Primary Responsibilities:


-Management of the server infrastructure

-Ensure maintenance, security updates, and upgrades for infrastructure systems

-Work with IT staff to plan for system growth and expansion

-Work with Library staff to design the optimal user experience 

-Document internal procedures, formalizing and automating as appropriate

-Provide helpdesk support for the services offered to public libraries

 

Examples of Work:


-Provide website troubleshooting and support to web hosting customers

-Troubleshoot email deliverability issues for email hosting customers

-Setup email and website hosting for library customers

-Collaborate with vendors and teammates on replacing end of life hardware

-Restore data from backups for library customers

-Research new software and provide analysis to team


 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

-Administer Windows and Linux servers

-Create and modify scripts using languages like PowerShell or Bash

-Experience working with version control and some familiarity with CI/CD

-Experience with a virtual environment (VMware, iSCSI)

-Experience administering a backup solution like Veeam

-Project management and documentation skills using tools like JIRA and Confluence

-Familiarity with automation and orchestration tools like Ansible or Terraform

-Familiarity with observability technologies like APM and log collection

-The ability to work in a team environment by taking direction and feedback, communicating clearly, and documenting activities 

-Ability to work independently on multiple issues/projects at once and handle overlapping timelines 

-Must possess good problem-solving skills 

-Should be self-motivated and driven to improve. 

-Experience with REST APIs

-Experience with SQL database systems like PostgreSQL and MySQL

-Familiarity with SNMP monitoring tools like WhatsUp Gold or LibreNMS

-Web Development skills (PHP, WordPress, etc.)

-Ability to administer DNS servers

-Experience managing network devices (routers, switches, access points, and firewalls)


Requirements:


Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree supplemented by a Master's degree in a field related to the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.


Experience: Two years professional experience in a field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.


Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours are considered one year of college).
