Residential Youth Counselor


Ranch Hope is currently recruiting Residential Staff for our Alloway location. Ranch Hope is a non-profit Residential Treatment Center with locations in Salem and Gloucester Counties.

Hours for a second shift position will generally include 5 eight hour shifts per week. 3 PM - 11 PM shifts are available every day and sometimes there are also 1st shift schedules required on Saturday and/or Sunday. Applicants must be available to work weekend shifts. We are currently accepting applications for both full time and on-call staff.

In this position, you will assist in supporting the treatment goals for youth that are living at Ranch Hope receiving treatment to assist them with a variety of adverse childhood experiences that have impacted their ability to live safely at home. In this role you will be provided with training on trauma informed care and the Nurtured Heart Approach to help you assist each youth in reaching their treatment goals.

In this position you will be mentoring and supervising youth in an out of home setting as they strive to reach their treatment goals.

Position Summary: Support the Core Values of Ranch Hope by upholding all standards relating to quality, partnership, integrity, empowerment, stewardship and compassion. Under supervision of the Treatment Unit Supervisor work with other members of the treatment team to provide direct basic client care, supervision, instruction, behavior modification, recreation and other individual/group services to youth in a structured setting. All services provided will promote the emotional, spiritual & social growth of our youth and will emphasize positive, professional role modeling as well as interpersonal relationships.

Knowledge:

· Knowledge of State and Federal laws regarding client/student rights to privacy

· Understanding of relevant reporting requirements for the State of New Jersey

· Understanding and compliance with staff to resident ratios required by licensing

· Understanding and compliance with all Ranch Hope policies and procedures

Skills/Abilities:

· Ability to serve as a positive and professional role model through compassionate, nurturing, empathetic and tolerant interpersonal communications

· Ability to demonstrate respect, cooperation, consideration and tact in working with subordinates, peers, supervisors, vendors and others

· Ability to diffuse agitated or disruptive situations through use of supportive/directive responses

· Ability to utilize nonviolent physical crisis intervention techniques to resolve dangerous situations

· Ability to recognize and respect cultural and ethnic differences

· Ability to remain aware of the location of all supervised residents while managing multiple priorities

· Ability to be punctual and attend all scheduled work shifts on a consistent basis

Duties & Responsibilities:

· Supervise the interactions and activities of youth in individual and group setting

· Develop and maintain positive relationship with residents

· Maintain required staff to resident ratios

· Effectively anticipate, redirect and respond to crisis and emergency situations in a timely manner

· Provide basic care and guidance to youth relating to personal hygiene, routine health and medical care

· Participate in a variety of structured leisure time activities as well as events to foster social, emotional and spiritual growth

· Transport residents in approved vehicles to off campus locations and appointments

· Administer medication and maintain required information in medication logs

· Conduct staggered bed checks during non-awake hours

· Submit critical incident reports, nightly logs and reports of activities in a timely manner

· Report any and all allegations or concerns regarding abuse or neglect immediately to the Administrator on Duty

· Ensure treatment unit office and client areas are clean and in a good state of repair and report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to Residential Services Manager

· Use positive communication skills with residents and staff

· Set a good example for residents in conduct, attendance an conflict resolution

· Attend department and staff meetings

Education & Professional Experience:

· High School Equivalency and one year working with children in a group setting or;

· Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, Social Services or related field

· Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Prevention training within first month of employment

Certifications/Licenses Required:

· CPR & First Aid Certification

· Valid Driver’s License

Physical Abilities:

· Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, bending, reaching

· Seeing to monitor children

· Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively

· Ability to observe surroundings and quickly react to emergency situations

· Ability to physically restrain children as needed during crisis situations
